PLANTED is a series of objects made from algae biopolymers, hemp, and waste. The material is an ideal medium for seed propagation. This material can be hand-sculpted, air-drying to a stone-like texture—cool and hard to the touch. When exposed to water, it softens to a spongy consistency yet remains intact.
PLANTED begins as a clump of biomaterial embedded with seeds. As the seeds sprout, the exposed roots allow the clump to be transferred into a moist planter made from the same material. Over time the planters can merge with one another and perhaps eventually root directly into the ground.
